We were fortunate to have gone through 9 months of pregnancy being told that Titus was a healthy baby. The excitement changed to nervousness however, when we saw that the NICU team was spending a lot of time with him right after his birth. They told us that Titus had a Pneumothorax- a condition where the lungs fail to open because of air trapped in the chest. As a result, Titus could not breathe by himself and needed to be on oxygen in order for his lungs to heal. As nerve wracking as it was for us, we are beyond grateful to the NICU nurses and doctors for the support, wisdom, and help they provided.
